Somers Town festival (NW1)

No Fixed Abode is a site-specific Public Art group show developed for Somers Town Festival and as a celebration of the 9th anniversary of Somers Gallery. Showcasing works of 4 emerging talents, the exhibition uses vans as unconventional exhibition spaces forming a Temporary Art Trail along Chalton St. Inspired by the momentary yet reoccurring spatial and temporal natures of the festivals, No Fixed Abode contemplates on the concept of the Chiasm.

Chiasm is an in-between-ness entity, a timeless infinite spacing where no line separates the strand from the sea which become of the same substance; where no background, perspective or outline exist; where are no intermediate distances yet all distances are intermediate. It is a Touch, a minimal distance within a slight, faint, suspended reality where the architectonics of bodies is played out and articulated. With no fixed abode, it meanders through the where of elsewhere towards the unconditional intercorporeity of the We-world.

A joyful diversion from the daily routine, a festival is a liberating break from the habitual life mode and use of space. It is Chiasmic moment – when cultural, social, identity and any other kinds of subdivisions or judgements are blurred, as people unite to celebrate music, culture, the local area; when the prescribed parking and traffic rules are suspended to accommodate these celebrations. With no fixed abode, this momentary bliss traverses through spaces, times and habits reoccurring to us as an invitation to the We-world.
